2012 Teroldego                                                            $30

Description

One of the rarest wines in Australia, Teroldego has been grown on our estate since our neighbour John Durham handed us his only 42 cuttings in 2004.  Deep crimson-black in colour, this wine appears both viscous and glassy.  Heady aromas of deep cherry, liquorice hints, small red berries framed and fresh herbs with quality French oak entice - multi-faceted, classic flavour with refined tannins and length.  This wine would age gracefully for 5-10 years in a cool cellar.

Enjoy our third vintage of this most fascinating grape.

Food matches for this wine should immediately include some wonderful Italian classics – capretto (slow cooked baby goat), the richness of osso bucco, and the simple but delightful lasagne.  For the more creative have a go at Spanish rabbit and chick pea stew – we can send the recipe J and the food match is just divine.

Sealed under screwcap to ensure the wine made by us arrives to you as we intended it to.

Gary Walsh, The Wine Front

Those nobbly blue ones you find in a box of liquorice all sorts, that’s the main smell, along with meat, hazelnuts, dark chocolate, dark cherries and other manly drawing room kinds of things. Medium to full bodied, all toasted hazelnut rolled in bitter chocolate, shale-like furry tannin and fresh acidity. It’s distinctly Italianate, regardless of it coming from about as far away as you can get from Italy, but never mind: the spirit is true. Finish is rugged, yet precise and ‘minerally’. It’s chunkier, bolder and fleshier than Italian styles, yet delivers the character and charisma of the grape to equal effect. It’s very good. I recommend it unconditionally.
